Dashboard template

MRR, churn and activation, reconciled with billing.

The subscription business on one page: monthly recurring revenue and where it moved, who signed up and who activated, who churned and why — with every figure traceable back to the billing system.

MRR climbing

SaaS metrics

Signups, activation, churn and growth.

Subscription metrics go wrong in one predictable way: the growth chart comes from one tool, churn from another, and neither matches finance. This template starts from Stripe or your billing database so MRR reconciles with cash, and adds product activity for signups and activation.

Product reads the top of the funnel — signups, activation, trial conversion. Finance and the board read the MRR movements and net revenue retention. Both use the same definitions, written once as calculated fields and reused in every chart.

The definitions matter more than the charts: see MRR and churn rate for the conventions this template follows, and adjust them if your contracts are annual.

  • Founders and finance leads who need an MRR figure that matches the bank.
  • Product managers watching activation and trial conversion week by week.
  • Boards and investors who receive the same page as a scheduled PDF each month.
The metrics

What a saas metrics dashboard should show.

Each figure below is on the template from the first minute — rename, redefine or remove any of them.

MRR

Sum of active subscriptions normalised to a month, at month end. Annual plans ÷ 12; one-off charges excluded.

Net new MRR

New + expansion − contraction − churned MRR in the month. The only growth number that cannot flatter you.

Logo churn

Customers cancelled ÷ customers at the start of the month.

Revenue churn

MRR lost to cancellations and downgrades ÷ MRR at the start. Reported separately from logo churn; small customers leaving is a different problem from large ones shrinking.

Net revenue retention

MRR today from customers active 12 months ago ÷ their MRR then. Above 100% means expansion outruns churn.

Signups

New accounts created, by source and plan, weekly.

Activation rate

Signups that reached your defined first-value moment within 7 days ÷ signups. Define the moment once and keep it.

Trial to paid

Trials that converted ÷ trials started, by cohort week, with average revenue per account beside it.

The panels

The charts on the page, and the decision each one supports.

MRR movements

A monthly waterfall from opening MRR through new, expansion, contraction and churn to closing. Shows exactly what drove the change; decides whether the problem is acquisition or retention.

Signup to paid funnel

Signups → activated → trial → paid, by week, with conversion at each stage. Points product at the step that is losing people.

Cohort retention

Sign-up month vs months since sign-up, shaded by revenue retained. Answers whether the product is getting stickier for newer customers.

MRR by plan

Stacked area by plan over 24 months. Shows whether growth is in the plans you want to grow.

Churn reasons

Cancelled MRR by stated reason and by plan, quarterly. Turns churn from a rate into a to-do list.

Top accounts and expansion

Largest accounts with MRR change over 90 days and health signals. The list for the expansion and save conversations.

FAQ

SaaS metrics template questions.

Something else on your mind? Ask us directly — a person answers.

What should a SaaS metrics dashboard include?

MRR and its monthly movements, logo and revenue churn, net revenue retention, signups, activation rate, trial conversion and cohort retention. Start from billing data so the numbers reconcile with finance.

Can MRR be calculated from Stripe automatically?

Yes. Klayara reads subscriptions and invoices from Stripe and calculates MRR, movements and churn with formulas you can read and change — for example to treat annual plans or discounts the way your finance team does.

How often do the metrics update?

Billing data refreshes on the schedule you choose, typically hourly. Product events from a live-connected database are current, so activation and signups can be watched during the day.

Can we start from this template and change it?

Yes. Swap the activation definition for your own, add a customer acquisition cost panel from marketing spend, or split everything by segment. It is an ordinary dashboard once you edit it.
