Dashboard template

Who uses the product, which features stick, and who is drifting away.

Active users, sessions, feature adoption and retention on one page — drawn from the events your product already records, and read by product, customer success and leadership alike.

Product usage

Active users, adoption and retention, every day.

Most product teams can tell you how many people signed up. Fewer can say, on a given Monday, how many used the product last week, which features they came back for, and which accounts have gone quiet. This template answers those three questions from the event table your application already writes, with nothing extra to instrument.

Product managers open it to judge a release; customer success opens it to find accounts whose usage is falling before renewal; leadership reads the headline tiles. Each account manager can be limited to their own customers with a row rule, and the whole page can go to a Slack channel every Monday. For the commercial side of the same business, pair it with the SaaS metrics template.

  • Product managers judging whether a release changed behaviour.
  • Customer success teams looking for accounts whose usage is slipping before renewal.
  • Founders and leadership who want adoption on one page next to revenue.
The metrics

What a product usage dashboard should show.

Each figure below is on the template from the first minute — rename, redefine or remove any of them.

Daily and monthly active users

Distinct users with at least one event in the day or the last 30 days, and their ratio — the "stickiness" of the product.

Sessions and events

Sessions and events per active user this week against last week.

Feature adoption

Share of active users who used each key feature at least once in the period.

Retention by signup cohort

Of the users who signed up in a month, the share still active one, two and three months later.

Time to first value

Median time from signup to the first use of the feature that defines an activated user.

Accounts going quiet

Accounts whose weekly active users fell by more than a set share against their own four-week average.

The panels

The charts on the page, and the decision each one supports.

Headline tiles

Active users, stickiness, adoption and retention, each with its comparison.

Usage trend

Daily active users for 90 days with a 7-day average and release dates marked.

Feature adoption bars

Adoption by feature, sortable, with a click-through to the users behind each bar.

Retention grid

Signup cohorts down the side, months since signup across the top, coloured by share retained.

Recent events

The latest events with account, user and feature, filterable and exportable.

FAQ

Product usage template questions.

Something else on your mind? Ask us directly — a person answers.

What data does a product usage dashboard need?

An events table with a user, an account, a timestamp and an event or feature name, plus a users table with signup dates. Most applications already record both.

How is retention by cohort calculated?

Users are grouped by signup month; for each later month the dashboard shows the share of that group with at least one event. The grid makes an improving or worsening onboarding visible at a glance.

Can account managers see only their own customers?

Yes. A row-level rule by account owner limits each manager to their accounts, in the dashboard, downloads and scheduled reports.

Can it post to Slack every week?

Yes. Schedule the dashboard as an image or PDF to a Slack channel, email, Telegram or WhatsApp on any day and hour.
